The “Best Time to Buy” truly applies when comes to fashion categories such as clothing, accessories, jewelry, beauty and shoes. There are certain times throughout the year such as season end – September and March, the Black Friday and New Year Eve, which can save you a ton of money on these essential shopping items in everyday lives.

The best time to buy clothes is the late into every season. It will get you the best prices of apparel whether regular or branded, when you get into the season after the first phase of majority shoppers is over.

Hence there is no perfect answer to the “best time” so we will try to guide more precisely about the optimal times when normally good deals are available on clothing and accessories.

Remember our universal savvy shopping formulas applies here too.

♦  When is the best and cheapest time to buy apparels?  (Jack Whitehead)

Almost 90% of people used to complete seasonal shopping in the starting month so keep waiting until the majority has done theirs and merchants are happy with their start season’s high margins. Now they are ready to offer you a good bargain. (Already tagged or you can directly ask for bargain when visiting)

I noticed that there is no much difference in fashion & styles from one season to another, so I use to shop for winter & summer in the second half of the season on discounted prices. You might have a $250 hoody for just $50. Although I have to sacrifice a bit on variety & options it matters less when I am winning the best deal. So I start my season with last season’s fresh discounted shopping. Just by adjusting my shopping schedule I save thousands of bucks every season.

PURPOSE IS TO ADD TO YOUR IDENTICAL FASHION STYLE FRUGALLY, NOT WARDROBE ORPHANS.

SO, WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO BUY FASHION

1. JANUARY – WINTER SHOPPING

For winter shopping such as winter coats and outerwear, January is the best time to buy and for spring clothes the best to buy is June –July. We can have upto 80% deep discounts on winter clothes in January and on spring apparel in June.  For swimming wears, the best time to buy is the month of September; the end of the swimming season when the leftover is available on high discounts.

Take: when you go for shopping late in the season, mostly good stuff is gone and you are left with limited choices of colors, styles, and sizes so waiting months to save 100 bucks and sacrificing the product of your choice is anything but not a better idea especially for a fashion picker

2. SHOPPING HOLIDAYS & EVENTS

The second best time to buy fashion items is every long weekend holiday such as Black Friday, Presidents Day, Labor Day and July 4th.  Shopping in January – after Christmas, will get you amazing prices.

3. SOCIAL SEASONS

The third best time is about our social seasons – as a savvy shopper, the marriages are more to do with money so are the big events to save money. There are social trends – typically, the popular time to get married is from late summer to early fall, every year.

A real wedding study by The Knot shows that about 78% of marriages take place between May to October.  So being a bit off-season can save you thousands of bucks on your classy marriage. To be more precise, December is the best time to buy bridal dresses and accessories. The offseason shopping trick applies on spring season, swimming season and back to school season too.

4. BACK-TO-SCHOOL SEASON

For back-to-school season, there are two times – during back-to-school season (August) more merchants offer sales on back-to-school items for kids and secondly after the season (October) even you can find more deep discounts on Jeans, all leftover items especially kids’ apparels. Well, it was our fourth “best time”.

5. CERTAIN DAYS IN WEEK

Yes, certain days in a week are best to shop particular items. You can buy jewelry at the best prices when shop on Wednesday and Jeans on Tuesday.  A store manager suggests the best time to buy clothes on the evening of Thursday when weekend sales start and according to him, they put items on sale after staying six weeks in the store because it costs to store.

6. THE MONDAY

By analyzing hundreds of thousands of essential items from more than 200 merchants, ShopItToMe found that, Monday is best to get about 50% off on dress pants and eye wears, Tuesday is best to save on men apparels, Wednesday can save you 40% on kids’ apparel, Thursday is for handbags, and the weekend days are, as per analysis, best time to buy jewelry, accessories, women undies and swimming wears.

7. THE FALL AND SPRING SEASONS

They suggest that the fall is savvier for denim wears and other apparels than spring. The bridal shopping is best in between Thanksgiving and Christmas because of offseason as per social trends – couples tend to be engaged around Christmas and on New Year’s Eve and shop mostly in winter. Avoid January – February for bridal shopping.

Spring clothes and shoes go on sale with a round of two months, so for spring shoes & clothes do visit a store somewhere in June – July to grab upto 50% off deals.

8. LATE-LOCAL SEASONS

As per our season end formula, for swimming suits & accessories, shop at the end of the swimming season and for raincoats, the best time is the month of May because the rainy season is over and you may have a good bargain on leftover. Butler reveals that the best time to shop for athletic shoes and apparel is May because merchants are more interested to shed their last season stocks before the summer is over.

Stay away from the rush hours and days; you remember our 5th savvy formula? So avoid when most people are shopping for certain items. Your entry time is the possible last day/night especially in the popular gift events such as Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

HOW TO BUY BEST?   FASHION SAVING HACKS

For a frustration-free and savvy shopping, here we shared briefly some smart ways to follow through the process of smart, savvy, and pleasant shopping.

1. WARDROBE INSPECTION, SHOPPING LIST & BUDGETING

Wardrobes are an important place for fashion adopters specifically women.  Savvy shoppers do regular scrutiny of their wardrobes to manage their closet. Don’t go shopping for a new fashion or new-arrival but to shop your closet perfectly according to your taste and style.

Scrutinizing your wardrobe is an important part of developing a shopping list. It will make easy to shop the items you want and will avoid duplication of outfits. And it will smartly provide more options to wear all the options of your closets in your fashion style.

Once in a Month, take some time and complete this task. You will be surprised to see the wear options your wardrobe will produce in front of you about which you were completely ignorant. This process will reduce the chances of wardrobe orphans. Show your smartness with the many options and never underestimate the power of alteration.

It is the most important task before you go shopping whether regular shopping or discounted. If you want to become savvy shopper then you must have a list of items you need and stick to it at the store, to avoid one of the main causes of shopping frustration; excess shopping – the items you don’t need. It will reduce your wardrobe orphans.

And secondly must have decided on budget on certain new items so that you can avoid blowing a ton of money. The Shopping list and item-wise estimated budget will help you a lot in savvy shopping.

2. MARKET INTELLIGENCE

When you try the first best time of late-season discounted shopping you should have information about the market, your selected merchants and the price range. Sometimes, merchants offer discount percentages on the prices higher than the regular to attract customers. So, it’s very important to be vigilant, do your search, check the market options and price ranges (I do it online checking different clothing stores sites) so that you can be in a position to assess the actual discount when late season and off-season sales are offered.

Select stores which are best for shopping of your required item categories – focus on specialized merchants to find good deals of options and bargain.

3. EAT FULL AND WEAR COMPLETE

This is the third and last task at home to do before going to shop. Go shopping with a full stomach – it is proven as a preventive measure for excess shopping. Wears comfortable clothes and footwear – you may need to remove during checking new items.

4. CLOSET DATABASES

Try to enlist your all closet and wardrobe items. Jot down everything you have in detail.  And keep track of all your current and future buying. Believe, this practice is going to serve you a long way in your fashion on budget mission.

5. MATCHING AND STYLING

You should consider color and stuff matching and styling, especially when shopping for separate items that you will wear together. Taking the other items with you to the store can help you get the best match.

6. BE SELECTIVE TO YOUR STYLE AND SIZE

Don’t buy anything that looks attractive at store shelf in terms of price or fashion. Be selective, focus on the item in your wish list, find items that you feel comfortable and click your mind. The second important thing is the size – always buy to fit your current size. Check the items wearing the undergarments you are planning to use with.

If there is a good deal with a slight size difference that you can fix at home, go for it. Different brand size charts may differ so you should know what exactly the brand size is. It is better to take your exact and current measurement with you.

7. CHECK REVIEWS (ONLINE) & READ INSTRUCTIONS

If shopping online, it is easy to check the comments and reviews under each item to have a clear idea and on store must read instructions and tags to know more about the item. Inquire about the store policies for returns.

8. LOOK FOR COUPONS AND DO YOUR MATH

As a savvy shopper, always look for coupons, ask directly to the merchants, do your girly math to find the exact discount and apply coupons properly when you are shopping online.

9. DON'T GO CRAZY ON NEW FASHION ARRIVALS

DON’T BE FASHION CRAZY, FOLLOW YOUR STYLE

Your shopping list with a realistic budget calculation and your personalized fashion style following your current size and shape is a key for better shopping. How can you be silly to buy for a lifestyle or personality you don’t have and you just visualize in your mind.

A personal stylist Catherine Joubert suggests that when shop clothes “Your skin tone, hair color, and eye color can all affect what color look good on you, especially the colors you wear near your face”. It is more important when buying tops.

9. WEAR YOUR BEST BRAS AND UNDERWEAR

This tip is part of preparation before going to the shop. It’s really important to get ready to go to the market especially for fashion shopping. Wear your best-fit bra and underwear in case you will need to try clothes in-store test room. You will feel comfortable to take on and off your clothes and it will be better to assess the fitting of clothes you buying.

10. BASICS LET YOU FEEL BETTER

Basic items like underwear, bras, sleepwear and all others used by both men and women are not to be ignored. If you are feeling comfortable inside you will look more beautiful outside. Pay your special attention to these wears as they are no big deal to buy once in a season.

11. CARRY MATCHING ITEMS

If you are going to shop for a closet, carry matching items with you. It will be a great help to find out the perfect match. And you can ask for salesperson assistance to help you in finding the specific match.

12. DEVELOP YOUR WARDROBE HORSE

This is one of my most favorite points to talk about, to follow and to keep in mind when shopping.

You must prepare wardrobe horses; the accessories and clothes that you like and you find it most suitable and similar to your style. It will bring peace in your wearing life. Keep simple, identify your wardrobe horse and buy the same items once a season.

I acknowledge that it works well for men as per their nature, but for women, it has the worst reservations. Though, you can try it up to some extent of your identical fashion outfit color and style.

13. CONSIDER OTHER ATTACHED EXPENSES

Other expenses may attach to an item such as taxes and shipping costs, so you must consider it before making the final purchase especially checking out online.

14. AFTER SHOPPING TASKS

Try the item wearing with other matching items and check the fit and style at home. Read all the usage & washing instructions and follow them. Lastly, must keep all the bills and receipts with you because you may need them in the future.
